I enjoy working in an art journal. I use a small one so I don’t feel like I have to spend oodles of time on each page. These pages are meant to be sketches. An art journal is a great way to work out ideas or just play without worrying too much about the end result. Some pages are more finished than others. Some “work” and some don’t, but there is something to learn on each page. The picture (above) is a sampling of the pages I have finished over the last couple weeks. More pages can be seen in my Facebook group, Janyce Collages.
If your new year’s resolutions included sending cards to your family and friends - you are in luck! I just received a supply of printed greeting cards from Gossamer Press in Old Town, Maine. (It is always a good day when that happens!). These are 5” x 7” prints of my collage wall art. I kept some favorite designs from last year, plus added five new designs. You can see my whole collection of greeting cards here.
Here’s an update of my Cityscape collage. As you can see, it’s still a work in progress. The canvas is completely covered. Now, it’s a matter of adding details and details and details.

Nothing like playing around in my art journal to shake out the cobwebs. I am using images and words found in the many books and magazines I have laying around my studio. I plan to keep working in my journal throughout the year. This is meant to be a quick “sketch.”
Carla Sonheim, Lynne Whipple, and Anne Marie Grgich are teaching an online class called “2019: Year of the Collage”. How can I pass that up? It started today. Part of our first assignment was to collage our name. I cut up an old collage I’d done for a previous class and used some scraps to make this collage on mixed media paper. So looking forward to this!
I placed an order with Gossamer Press in Old Town, Maine for a few new greeting cards. These are images of my layered paper collages. The cards are 5” x 7” and blank inside. They should be available in my gift shop in a week or two. Other designs are available for purchase here.

The light was not that great for taking pictures this morning, but I wanted to grab a quick work in progress shot of this Cityscape collage. I still have quite a ways to go, but my city is taking shape! Still to come - more buildings, signage, and people.
