Sunday Inspiration: What's Under the Snow
In a span of a week, we had over a foot of snow in this area of Maine (lots of shoveling) reduced to bare patches on the lawn and in the gardens because of heavy rain. Crazy weather.
What always intrigues me is how the plants in the yard look when the snow recedes. I have a rhododendron out front that gets piled with snow from the roof and, still, it survives and thrives come spring.
I noticed the birds take advantage of what looks to me to be totally dead herb stalks whenever the snow gets low enough to uncover them.
I know these are little things, but the fact that there is life under all that snow and in that frozen ground is inspiring to me. We are no where near finished with winter, but thinking about the hardy persistence of the plants in my yard makes me happy.
