Quick Sketches at 55 mph
I drew these quick sketches based on scenes from a car going down the highway. No, I wasn't driving. Lately, I've been taking bits of scrap paper and a pen on trips and drawing these snapshots--10 to 20 second sketches of scenes that catch my eye. The practice both trains my hand and eye to move quickly and breaks up the boredom of being a passenger. The sketches don't feel like anything special at the time--and, frankly, most of them are not--but every once in a while I come up with an interesting perspective I wouldn't have captured on paper on my own.
